PALMDALE - The City of Palmdale sponsored Families in Action program will begin distribution of Rider Relief Transportation Program (RRTP) discount coupons to eligible Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) bus riders beginning Tuesday, March 2.

The $5 coupons are available for Los Angeles County residents who meet the following income criteria:

RRTP coupons will be distributed every Tuesday from 2 to 5 pm and Wednesday from 9 am to 12 noon in the lobby of the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center, located at 38350 Sierra Highway in Palmdale. No appointment is necessary. Riders must report during the distribution times to complete the application and show proof of income to receive their coupon books.

The RRTP coupon program provides a $5 per month discount to every purchase of an AVTA pass over $5.  The coupons are good towards AVTA passes or for purchasing the EZ transit pass and they apply to each member of the family who purchases bus passes.

"The City of Palmdale is delighted to be able to assist qualified residents in this program,” said Palmdale’s Family Development Supervisor Kari Robertson.  “We appreciate ways to help curb transportation costs in any way possible and are thankful that the AVTA has partnered with LA Metro to offer this program.”

“A program like this also gives us another opportunity to speak with families about the programs Families in Action offers the community," Robertson said. “We have a lot of resources available to Antelope Valley residents that help build strong families and relationships.”

The Families in Action program is funded by the City of Palmdale. It offers eight different courses to parents in the Antelope Valley, as well as two courses in Spanish.
